Brought to you by The Phoenix Conservatory of Music! Bring your own guitar and experience the joy of making your own music. Basic musical skills will be taught such as proper hand positions, basic theory and fret board harmony, chords, and popular songs. Great for those student from Beginning Youth Guitar that are looking to add to their skill base and for adults who are beginners or revisiting their basics! Class size limited to 15. Blues and Ragtime Guitar Workshop I
Come out and have fun playing blues and ragtime music on the guitar! In this workshop we will focus on playing technique and songs that are within the range of the beginning player. Develop a strong finger style technique with alternating bass and syncopated melody. Examine the structure of 12-bar blues, turnarounds and fills, and start on the road to improvisation. Students signing up for this class should have taken a Beginning Guitar Workshop or are comfortable playing chord changes while keeping a steady rhythm. All students will receive handouts with the exercises and songs written in both tab and standard notation, and a CD to help you recall the sound of each song. Curriculum developed by Richard McKeon
Blues and Ragtime Guitar Workshop II
This class is for you if you are looking to break out of patterns, add more variety and excitement to the songs you already play, and increase your repertoire of great old country blues and folk rags of an intermediate level. Students signing up for this workshop should have taken Blues and Ragtime Guitar Workshop I, and have a solid alternating bass technique. All students will receive handouts with the exercises and songs written in both tab and standard notation, and a CD to help you recall the sound of each song. Curriculum developed by Richard McKeon.

Super Singing
Attention: Calling all singers! This program is a fun method of learning proper voice technique including posture, breath support, pitch accuracy, projection, focusing sound and developing mental concepts regarding sung music (what is good singing? How do we classify and define a great song? ), Interpret a song. Discover the mysteries of vocal improvisation. Learn song preparation and performing/ audience skills. Master the art of presenting yourself well. Take a journey into the past and explore music from the ages and the evolution of the sung song. Examine voice specific ethnic music and music from different genres including popular styles. Discuss what vocal music means to us in todays society. Study basic music notation as it relates to vocal music. Students will have an opportunity to sing in an ensemble setting and as a soloist. Students will positively examine and critique their performance in a way that will allow them to grow and develop artistically. (*Program can be developed to partner with other projects: e.g. Focus of sung song in musical theater, world music focusing on a specific culture, music from a specific time period, etc) Class size limited to 15. The Symphony Orchestra: Everything You Wanted Know But Were Afraid To Ask
Who selects the music for a Concert? How are musicians hired? Who is in charge of the orchestra? How do they pay the bills? Find the answers to these questions and more by taking a look behind the scenes of the professional symphony orchestra. This program will discuss and explore the creation of a symphony orchestra to developing a concert season. All that is required is a love of music. Class minimums are 8, class maximums are 15. Follow the development of western music from the Greeks to the 21st Century. This program will examine the basic elements and characteristics of each major era in music history as well as discussing various composers and their music. The Symphony
This round table format will discuss the history and development of the symphony form in classical music. Time will be spent reviewing the works of Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Mahler and others. We will examine scores and listen to recordings to gain a general idea of the composer and his works. The Art of Conducting
This program has been developed to cover the basics of conducting. You will learn conducting patterns and cueing as well as getting some exercise. Its a proven fact that conductors live longer lives. Song of the Week Club
If while listening to the radio or watching film and television you have ever wondered, "Where did that song come from, I know Ive heard it before!?" this is the workshop for you! Come and discuss the history, life and times of songs that you hear everyday. A workshop that focuses on listening, learning and sharing ideas about musical styles, instrumentation, composer notes, historical influence and significance, and genere characteristics with a new song each week. Participants are encouraged to bring a notebook and pencil and should be prepared to have a great time. Workshop minimum is 8 and workshop maximum is 15.

Sharing Music; An Interactive Performance Lecture Series
Come and get involved with music! This workshop is an interactive performance lecture series so sit back, enjoy the show and be prepared to discuss ideas about music. Workshop will include listen/ discussion with live and recorded music, instrumentation with hands on demonstrations, composer notes and historical information, how music is relevant to yesterday and today, and a musical understanding of how songs are put together with related activities. Musical selections will be taken from classical, contemporary, folk and world music. Workshop participants should be prepared to enjoy and participate with music and have a great time. The Enjoyment of Classical Music
If you ever attended a concert and had trouble communicating with others about the program, well this program is ideal. Designed to improve your basic knowledge of music, this program explores some basic music history, concert etiquette, how to listen, how to prepare for a concert and basic musical forms and terms.
