PCM can work with any school or community setting to provide after school programs that fit your needs!  Please call us at 602.353.9900 for more details- some examples of after school and community programs are below!

 

Exploring Music: 

This program is structured to present a fun way for participants to learn about and explore instruments in the percussion, wind and string families.  Each of class focuses on a specific instrument group, i.e. percussion, strings, winds and voice.  Instrument presentation will include common and ethnic instruments in that group.  Students are led through demonstrations and hands-on activities designed to help them develop a true understanding of the principles of sound related to these instruments.  Every participant should complete each workshop with the basic knowledge of how these instruments work and how their performers physically play the instruments.  Students will also be presented with sound activities, music history activities and basic music theory activities to better understand the construction of music.  Students will explore activities that develop concepts of music form, composition and performance as well as activities that help to build their basic music competency. Super Singing:

Attention:  Calling all singers!  Want to be an Idol? Like an American Idol? This program is a fun method of learning proper voice technique including posture, breath support, pitch accuracy, projection, focusing sound and developing mental concepts regarding sung music (what is good singing?  How do we classify and define a great song? ), Interpret a song.  Discover the mysteries of vocal improvisation.  Learn song preparation and performing/ audience skills.  Master the art of presenting yourself well.  Take a journey into the past and explore music from the ages and the evolution of the sung song.  Examine voice specific ethnic music and music from different genres including popular styles.  Discuss what vocal music means to us in todays society.   Study basic music notation as it relates to vocal music.  Students will have an opportunity to sing in an ensemble setting and as a soloist.  Students will positively examine and critique their performance in a way that will allow them to grow and develop artistically.    (*Program can be developed to partner with other projects:  e.g. Focus of sung song in musical theater, world music focusing on a specific culture, music from a specific time period, etc) Class size limited to 15.  No prior experience required.   Notebook and pencil suggested. Music Around the World:

Explore new lands and discover new places through the power of music!!  This program empowers students to create music from different places and cultures.   Develop ethnic diversity, geography and social studies skills as you listen, analyze, sing and move to songs from around the world.   Find out how to classify, breakdown and create music in other languages and styles.  Discover what is considered good music around the world!  Study basic notation and realize that music is a language that crosses all barriers.  Discuss the role of multicultural music in our society and what role it plays in our lives.  Share songs from your own cultural background.  Create your own instruments out of recycled materials and learn to play ethnic instruments from a variety of countries.   Learn multicultural ensemble music and accompany yourselves with your quality handmade instruments. 

 

Beginning Youth Guitar:

Bring your own guitar and start learning about the joys of making your own music. Basic musical skills will be taught such as proper hand positions, posture, note reading, finger picking or classical technique as well as pick technique.  Basic fret board theory will be introduced and students will learn how to play popular age appropriate songs step by step. The minimum enrollment is 8 students per class.  The maximum enrollment is 15 students per class unless otherwise stated in the class description.  Supply fee is included in the cost of the class. No prior experience required.   .Notebook and pencil suggested.  Curriculum Developed by Regina Nixon and Bonnie Lou Olander.

 

My Musical!
Brought to you by The Phoenix Conservatory of Music! If you loved High School Musical, than this is the place for you!! Learn about the elements of musical theater while creating and performing songs to your own group musical! The characters, plots, dancing, costumes, and music! Not to mention the DRAMA! Beginning Piano:
Brought to you by The Phoenix Conservatory of Music! Bring your own keyboard and start learning about the joys of making your own music. Basic musical skills will be taught such as proper hand positions, posture, note reading, and technique. Students will learn how to play popular age appropriate songs step by step. The maximum enrollment is 15 students per class. Keyboards should have full size keys and if at all possible, weighted keys. Please call 602.353.9900 with questions. Supply fee is included in the cost of the class. No prior experience required. Notebook and pencil suggested.

 

Drum Basics!
Brought to you by The Phoenix Conservatory of Music! Bring a practice pad and a set of sticks to get started on your snare drum technique.  Hand percussion will also be covered in class.  Learn great technique, ins and outs of the instrument, and the difference between playing in a drum line and a rock band! Violin:

Brought to you by The Phoenix Conservatory of Music!! It's time to dust off that violin and rosin up your bow!! Learn or revisit basic violin technique in a classroom setting while participating in fun songs and games on the violin. Students will need an appropriate sized violin. No prior experience required; but players with experience are welcome! Join together as a group in playing ensemble songs in a fun, relaxed setting!
